UPDATE ON COLLEGE STRIKE

So the results are in the votes have been casted. Yesterday 57% of college profs at all colleges in Ontario voted YES in favour of a strike. My school Centennial voted 70% in favour of striking if an agreement can not be reached by Feb 15th according to the union's website. I sincerely hope they can reach an agreement before a strike occurs . As some have been saying though, if its taken them 5 months already and no agreement has been made what difference will a month make? I for one sincerely hope an agreement can be reached ,it is not worth it or fair to the students who are paying for an education to be interrupted in the midst of what is already a busy semester for many. The public ,media and communities need to pressure them to come to an agreement . Contact your MPPs MP's and get them to get involved in this. This is unacceptable !

Here are all the results of the vote :

Algonquin 49.64% 50.36%

STOP THE STRIKE

Hey again everyone sorry for the lack of updates.
As many of you in Ontario/ across the GTA may already know tomorrow college prof's will be voting whether to strike or not .
I encourage the public and other students who may not have voiced their opinions to speak out.
The strike is not in our best interest and will of course only hurt us in the long run.
Yes college prof's have rights but in an economy where it is very difficult these days for students to even pay to go college a strike will not be tolerated by the students or anyone else involved.
For those in their final semesters who are supposed to graduate this will cause them many problems and could potentially ruin their future plans.
I applaud the Prof's who made the stopthestrike site ,and those on their who are openly opposed to the strike and will be voting NO tomorrow. To those who will be reading this blog please vote NO to a strike tomorrow. I know that a strike will be hurting the Prof's as well as they do not receive their full salaries during this time so why go on strike if you wont be paid a regular salary? Some Prof's have been saying they are doing this for us ,that this will help us and others in the future. I say how does ruining a student's semester help them? I'd say you are HURTING US more than you are helping us. Please do the right thing and put pressure on the union and college management to come to an agreement.

If this strike does go on and forces semesters to be extended many students could loose out on summer employment which helps them pay to go to school in the first place.
I for one being a 1st yr Broadcast and Film Student at Centennial College do not support this strike ,the same can be said with how many of my peers feel.
Do not ruin thousands of students semesters across Ontario.
Please continue to talk and to find a solution to avoid striking.

As one of my prof's said today we can help this by the public ,media and communities putting pressure on the two feuding parties to reach an agreement.

I will post the outcome as soon as it is made available I heard we wont know until 8pm tomorrow night.

Hoping for some good news ,

Tarah
